On the 26th September of 2022 at 02:03, a pressure drop was detected in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. After some investigations, it was uncovered that there were 3 giant gas leaks(in the NS1 as well as in NS2) in the near vicinity of the Danish island called Bornholm. Even tho the pipelines were closed by Russia since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. Significant amounts of natural gas were still stored in the Nord Stream lines. Now, this massive amount of methane is leaking, but fortunately, according to some research, it won’t drastically affect our atmosphere. The origin of the leaks still remains unclear but according to Danish , Swedish and Polish intelligence, it was none other than Russia who sabotaged the pipelines.
While opposing countries shift the blame to one another. It’s pretty clear that it was Russia that orchestrated these attacks. We might wonder what is the reason for this sabotage. After reading about the topic we can come to the conclusion that it was simply a show of power by Russia. It was supposed to further destabilize the already wobbly energy situation in Europe, and show us that nothing on the Baltic sea is completely safe.
